A pebble dropped in the water creates many ripples that go on without us ever knowing what they come in contact with. Every CCI volunteer is similar to that pebble. They never know how someone in the audience at their demonstration, a visitor at their booth or an attendee at a special event may be affected and inspired by that encounter.
In 1990, I was involved in a dog obedience club sponsored by my employer, 3M Company. During a yearly awards banquet a guest speaker representing CCI gave a demonstration and presentation on the organization and its mission. That encounter impressed and moved me so greatly that I immediately wanted to learn more and get involved with CCI. I bought the CCI calendar and was fascinated and deeply touched by the graduates stories. I was introduced to a co-worker who was a CCI graduate. This introduction evolved into a friendship and fueled my desire to support the program. I was eager to start puppy raising, and was given a Golden Retriever, named Alan to raise.
Since that first encounter I have put my heart and soul into supporting CCI. When the CCI Minnesota Satellite office closed and the Mpls/St. Paul Volunteer Chapter was formed, I stepped forward to lead the group.
Through numerous hours I have given raising community awareness with demonstrations, presentations and fundraisers, I have helped educate and sparked interest in many people. One co-worker (Thanks Bob!!) was so impressed with my leadership in the chapter and my commitment to the organization that he nominated me for the 3M Community Volunteer Award in 2000. 3M agreed and awarded me this prestigious award and contributed $1,000 to CCI. I look ahead with dreams of doing more for CCI.
